The Picasso Museum in El Born

The Museu Picasso occupies five fifteenth-century houses on Carrer Montcada and focuses on the artist's youth and training, from his student Barcelona years onward. It is the museum that explains where the genius came from, before cubism.

What you will actually see

The teenage paintings, the studies for Avinyó street, and the complete Las Meninas series, his final dialogue with Velázquez. If you are looking for Guernica, it is not here: it hangs in Madrid.

Tickets and quiet hours

Entry is sold in time slots and sells out in high season: book days ahead. First thing in the morning and Monday afternoons the queue nearly disappears.

Chaining El Born

The museum sits in the heart of El Born: Santa Maria del Mar is three minutes away and Santa Caterina market next door. Plan half a day for the whole area, not just the museum.
