Contemporary art: MACBA and CCCB in the Raval

The Raval concentrates the contemporary: Richard Meier's MACBA on the Plaça dels Àngels and the CCCB in the old almshouse, together forming the youngest cultural heart of the city.

MACBA, the museum of movement

A collection of postwar art and major temporary shows, with its plaza turned into an informal skate spot by the museum's own design. The atrium and the plaza are pieces in themselves.

CCCB, the ideas one

The Centre de Cultura Contemporània programs exhibitions on cities, music, film and thought, with a cloister courtyard inherited from the old Casa de la Caritat worth the visit alone.

The Raval as the final piece

On the way out: art bookshops, the Rambla del Raval and Botero's cat. It is the densest, most mixed neighborhood of the center; walk it by day with eyes open.
